Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or lamb

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 carrots, diced

1 cup frozen peas

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or lamb. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.

Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet, sautéing for about 2-3 minutes until softened.

Stir in the diced carrots and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.

Mix in the frozen peas, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until heated through and combined.

Transfer the meat mixture into a baking dish, spreading it evenly on the bottom.

Layer the mashed potatoes over the meat filling, smoothing them out with a spatula. You can create a rustic pattern with a fork if desired.

If using, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
