Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)

Edible rose petals (for decoration)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; whisk together until well combined.

In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

Gradually stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal!

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, whip the heavy cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a generous layer of whipped cream over the top.

Place the second cake layer on top. You can either frost the top and sides with more whipped cream or simply keep it more rustic with just the top frosted.

Garnish with edible rose petals for a romantic touch.

                      Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 20 minutes | Servings: 12

                        - Presentation Tips: Serve each slice with a dollop of whipped cream on the side and a sprinkle of cocoa powder for an elegant finish.
