Ingredients

2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 pound angel food cake, cut into cubes

2 cups heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the whipped cream)

1/2 cup sliced almonds (for garnish)

Instructions

In a medium bowl, combine the sliced strawberries and granulated sugar. Toss and let sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the strawberries to release their juices.

In a separate large bowl, prepare the whipped cream. Using an electric mixer, whip the heavy cream until it begins to thicken. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, then continue whipping until soft peaks form.

In a glass trifle dish or individual serving glasses, start layering your trifle. Begin with a layer of angel food cake cubes at the bottom.

Next, add a layer of the macerated strawberries along with some of their juices.

Add a layer of whipped cream over the strawberries, smoothing it out with a spatula.

Repeat the layers (cake, strawberries, cream) until you've filled the dish, finishing with a generous layer of whipped cream on top.

Garnish the top layer of whipped cream with sliced almonds for added crunch and decoration.

Chill the trifle in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld together.
