Ingredients

6 large croissants, torn into pieces

1 cup cooked sausage, crumbled (or vegetarian sausage)

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar and gruyere mix)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Salt and pepper to taste

1/4 cup maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

Fresh berries and mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and pepper until well combined. If desired, stir in maple syrup for a touch of sweetness.

In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layer half of the torn croissant pieces evenly across the bottom.

Spread crumbled sausage and half of the shredded cheese on top of the croissant layer.

Pour half of the egg mixture over the sausage and cheese layer, ensuring it's well soaked.

Add the remaining croissant pieces, followed by the other half of the sausage and cheese.

Pour the remaining egg mixture over the entire casserole, pressing down the croissant pieces gently to ensure they soak up the liquid.

Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning. Remove the plastic wrap and bake the casserole for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and the center is set.

Once baked, allow to cool for about 5 minutes before slicing into squares.

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes (plus overnight chilling) | Servings: 8

                      - Presentation Tips: Serve warm, garnished with fresh berries and mint leaves for a pop of color. Drizzle with additional maple syrup if desired.
