Ingredients

1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder

2 oz hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)

1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of sea salt

Cocoa powder or matcha powder for dusting

Instructions

In a small bowl, whisk the matcha green tea powder with the hot water using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small whisk until smooth and frothy. Ensure there are no clumps.

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat, being careful not to boil it. Once warmed, froth the milk using a milk frother or by whisking vigorously until it’s light and airy.

Once the matcha is ready and the milk is frothy, add honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt to the matcha. Stir to combine.

Pour the frothed milk into a cup and then gently pour the matcha mixture on top, creating a beautiful layered effect.

For the finishing touch, dust the top with cocoa powder or a little more matcha powder for added flavor and a visual appeal.
