Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup cold butter, cubed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/3 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark or milk)

1 large egg (for egg wash)

Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a food processor, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Add the cold butter pieces and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Incorporate Cream Cheese: Add the softened cream cheese (and vanilla extract if using) to the food processor and pulse until the dough begins to come together. If the mixture is too dry, add a teaspoon of cold water at a time until it forms a cohesive dough.

Chill the Dough: Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.

Roll and Fold: On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Fold the dough in thirds (like a letter), rotate it 90 degrees, and roll out again. Repeat this process three times for that flaky croissant texture.

Add the Chocolate: Roll out the dough one last time into a larger rectangle. Cut into triangles (approximately 4-5 inches wide at the base). Place a few chocolate chips at the wide end of each triangle and roll them up tightly towards the point.

Prepare for Baking: Position the rolled croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the croissants for a golden finish.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the croissants for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool and Dust: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving for an added touch of sweetness.

Prep Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes | Servings: 8 croissants

                    - Presentation Tips: Serve the Le Crookies on a rustic wooden board or in a small basket lined with parchment paper. Pair with a fresh fruit compote or a cup of coffee for a delightful brunch experience!
