Ingredients

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

4 ounces dark chocolate (70% cocoa), chopped

2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional, adjust to taste)

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Pinch of sea salt

Whipped cream, for topping

Dark chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs, for garnish

Instructions

In a small saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until the mixture begins to warm, about 4-5 minutes. Do not let it boil.

Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, mix the chopped dark chocolate, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and sea salt.

Once the milk mixture is warm, remove it from the heat and pour it gently over the chocolate mixture. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the ingredients are well combined.

Return the saucepan to low heat, stirring for 1-2 more minutes until the hot chocolate thickens slightly.

Taste and adjust sweetness if desired, adding more sugar if necessary. If it's too thick for your liking, add a splash more milk to reach your preferred consistency.

Serve in large mugs, topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Finish with dark chocolate shavings or cocoa nibs for an extra special touch.
