Ingredients

500g ground beef

250g ground pork

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 slices of stale bread, soaked in milk and crumbled

1 large egg

1 teaspoon mustard (preferably German)

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

3 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork.

Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, crumbled stale bread, egg, mustard, parsley, thyme, salt, and pepper to the meat mixture.

Mix the ingredients together using your hands or a spoon until everything is well incorporated, but do not overmix to keep the patties tender.

Form the mixture into patties about 2 cm thick (approximately 1 inch) and place them on a plate. You should get about 8 patties.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Once the oil is hot, add the patties to the skillet, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

Transfer the cooked patties onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Serve the frikadellen warm with German mustard and fresh bread, or alongside boiled potatoes and green beans for a hearty meal.
