Ingredients

8 ounces elbow macaroni

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon mustard powder

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup breadcrumbs

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon paprika (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 2-quart baking dish.

Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, whisking constantly until a smooth roux forms.

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.

Remove from heat, then stir in the sharp cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese until melted and creamy.

Add the garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper to the cheese mixture. Stir well.

Combine the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce and mix until every piece is well coated.

Pour the mac and cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish.

In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with olive oil and sprinkle evenly over the macaroni.

Dust a pinch of paprika over the breadcrumbs for added flavor and color.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
