3 large russet potatoes, peeled and grated

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 large egg, beaten

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)

3 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions
 

Start by rinsing the grated potatoes in cold water to remove excess starch. This will help them become crispy. Drain well and then pat dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes, chopped onion, flour, beaten egg, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

      Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.

        Once the oil is hot, take a handful of the potato mixture and gently flatten it into a round patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Carefully place the patty in the skillet. Repeat with as many patties as can fit without crowding the pan.

          Cook the hash browns for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Add more oil if necessary for the second side.

            Once cooked, remove the hash browns from the skillet and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

              Repeat the process with the remaining potato mixture, adding more oil as needed.

                Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your perfectly crispy homemade hash browns!
