3mediumapples (any sweet variety like Fuji or Honeycrisp)
1teaspooncinnamon
1tablespoonsugar (or substitute with a sugar alternative)
1pinchsalt
to tastelemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
Instructions
Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. For a fresher look, you may choose to leave the peels on or peel them based on preference. Remove the core and slice the apples into thin rings—about 1/8 inch thick. Using a mandoline can ensure uniform thickness. If desired, toss the slices in a bit of lemon juice to reduce browning.
Season the Slices: In a mixing bowl, combine the cinnamon, sugar, and pinch of salt. Add the apple slices to the bowl and gently toss until they are evenly coated with the mixture.
Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 160°F (70°C) or the lowest setting available for 5 minutes.
Air Fry the Apple Chips: Place the seasoned apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding to ensure they cook evenly. Air fry at 160°F (70°C) for 15-20 minutes, checking and flipping halfway through for even crispiness. Cook until they're golden and crisp, or to your desired texture.
Cool and Store: Once cooked, remove the apple chips from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
