Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

        Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with heavy cream and milk. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the cake has cooled, sprinkle the top with 1/2 cup granulated sugar.

Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar on top until it forms a crispy, golden crust. If you don’t have a torch, you can place the cake under a broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.

Let the caramelized topping set for a minute before slicing and serving.
