Ingredients

2 cups water

2 tablespoons Earl Grey tea leaves (or 2 tea bags)

1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)

1/2 cup fresh cherries, pitted and halved

2 tablespoons sugar or to taste (honey or maple syrup as alternatives)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Ice cubes (optional for iced version)

Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Begin by boiling 2 cups of water in a small saucepan.

Once the water reaches a rolling boil, remove it from heat and and add the Earl Grey tea leaves or tea bags. Allow it to steep for 5 minutes for a strong flavor.

While the tea is steeping, in a separate saucepan, combine the pitted and halved cherries with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Cook over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes or until the cherries soften and release their juices. Stir occasionally, mashing some of the cherries for extra flavor.

Remove the cherry mixture from heat and let it cool slightly. Then, strain it through a fine sieve into a bowl to separate the juice from the pulp.

Add the strained cherry juice back into the saucepan along with the milk, remaining sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir well to combine. If you like your milk tea warm, gently heat over low heat until just warm (do not boil).

If serving hot, pour the prepared Earl Grey milk tea into cups and add a spoonful of the cherry mixture into each cup.

For an iced version, fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the hot tea over the ice, then stir in the cherry mixture.

Garnish with fresh mint leaves for a refreshing touch and serve immediately.
