2-4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

Scissors (for cutting piping bags)

A cake or cupcakes for decorating

Instructions
 

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until it is creamy and smooth.

    Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to prevent a cloud of sugar. Once combined, increase to medium speed and continue beating until fluffy.

      Add the heavy cream (or milk) and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

        If the frosting is too stiff, add more cream or milk, one teaspoon at a time, until the desired consistency is achieved. If too runny, add more powdered sugar.

          Divide the frosting into multiple bowls depending on how many colors you want to create.

            Add gel food coloring to each bowl, mixing until the colors are vibrant and well-incorporated. Adjust color intensity to your preference.

              Prepare your piping bags. Cut the tip of each bag and insert your chosen piping tip.

                Fill each piping bag with the colorful frosting, twisting the bag to keep the frosting contained at the top.

                  Practice your piping techniques on parchment paper before decorating your cake or cupcakes. You can create borders, rosettes, and other designs.

                    Once comfortable, decorate your cake or cupcakes using the various piping techniques you've practiced.
