2largeapples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
12chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
14brown sugar
1tablespoonbutter, for greasing
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter and set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture, gently folding until all the pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the mixture.
Fold in the diced apples and nuts (if using) into the bread mixture until evenly distributed.
Pour the mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Sprinkle the brown sugar over the top for a sweet, caramelized crust.
Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set.
Once done, allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm, drizzled with extra maple syrup, and a dusting of powdered sugar. Garnish with fresh apple slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon for an inviting presentation.
